Chapter 3: Why Jayman for me?

It was not an easy decision to choose between Trico and Jayman for me in Riviera. There was a lot of flip flopping in my head from one to the other - alomost depending on the day and what aspect was in my mind the most that day. In order for me to make a conscious and unbias decision for myself, I relied on a decision making matrix to help guided my final decision since there were so many aspects to consider and I didn't want to be bias towards one or two obvious things or purely used my impression on the sales rep (who you would deal with the most up to this point in the process). This is one of the largest investments in my life and I want to make sure that I will not regret later on how I made the decision.

Here is the dicision making matrix I used. It's very simple and pretty much can be used for any other dilemma you may have in life as well.
  • List out categories/criteria that are important to you
  • Give each criteria a % Weight depending on how important each criteria is to you - make sure they add up to 100%
  • Score each criteria for each builder - score from 0 to 10.
  • Calculate Points based on %weight x Score x 10 (this is to makie it nice rounded numbers and add up to 100)
  • Whoever has the higher Points is the winner!

In summary you can see from the table above, I went with Jayman mainly because of two things 1.) the floor plan that fit my situation the most. Trico was flexible enough that they were trying to adjust one of their floor plans to accommodate me but it was less hassle just to go with the standard Jayman had. And 2.) Interior choices, I'm talking about Style Magic Center, tons of choices and the staff over there seem to know what they were doing. I had a couple drop-in visits so far and both times were good.

My full day appointment at Style Magic Center will be this week and I will be able to tell you more after. This is another big day in the process after the day you signed the Purchase Agreement. It's a full day appointment to pick out the interior of your house. To me this is a fun step and the more you do your homework on what you want, the easier it's going to be on the appointment day.  However, if you don't have much details on what you want, the staff there will help guide you through the process. I guess that's why it's a full day appointment from 8.30am to 4pm.

Wish me luck on the appointment day. Hope everything will go smoothly. Fingers crossed!
